Tandav Actress Kritika Kamra Opens Up On Facing Bias For Being A TV Star; Says ‘Have Been Told TV Actors Come With Certain Baggage’
Kritika Kamra opened up on facing bias for being from the TV background. She revealed to a portal that she has faced the prejudice and she was once told that TV people come with a certain baggage
Kritika Kamra, who rose to fame due to her TV shows, is all set to make her web debut with Saif Ali Khan-led Tandav, which was dropped today on OTT platform Amazon Prime Videos. During her recent promotional interview, Kritika Kamra opened up on facing bias for being from the TV background. She revealed to a portal that she has faced prejudice and she was once told that TV people come with certain baggage. After playing Princess Chandrakanta, in Prem Ya Paheli, Kritika Kamra made her Bollywood debut with Jackky Bhagnani in Mitron.
Speaking to India Today, Kamra began saying that she has faced bias and she has to time and again prove herself. She said, “It's hard to make generalisations. I think everyone's journey is different and very personal. I won't deny it. I faced this prejudice and I still do. I have also been told that TV actors come with certain baggage. But I'm alright. I'm okay to go out there and prove myself as many times as I need to. And maybe people can re-imagine or imagine me doing things differently. It was not so bad for me. I will still say that I have been fortunate. I got good work. With films, it's a lot of factors. It's not just that you are coming from TV.”
She further told the portal, “You sign things, some things don't take off, some do. Some don't materialise the way you were told or some just never go on floors. So it's a different ball game. Now, of course, they say that the lines are blurring and I hope that they are. Tandav is a new chapter for me, it's my web debut also. I have also finished shooting for another series. So exciting things are happening now. But every now and then, there's a bit of worry. Being a TV actor, especially being somebody who's been popular on TV at some point and has done so much of television, I do face that bias. But I'm alright to go and test for things and let people decide if I'm good enough for the job.”
Kamra also revealed that she had signed a couple of films before Mitron which unfortunately didn’t see the light of the day. She added, “Before Mitron, I signed a few films, but they didn't work out. Then I went back to do some TV and then came back and did Mitron. The film didn't do well, but I got very good feedback. So that was heartening. Web opportunities have been coming my way, but I wanted to start with something special. I can't do something for just visibility and exposure. I mean television gives you that, so what is the point of doing something else if you are going to do it for that. I want to do stuff that creatively excites me, that is challenging, that is the kind of stuff that I would like to watch as well. So I have been a bit careful about choosing stuff. That's why I take a slog. I'm in no rush. I think it's fine.” (ALSO READ: Karan Kundra Gets Called A 'Lady' By A Troll As He Announces Live Session with Ex Kritika Kamra; Actor's Savage Reply Is Noteworthy)
